Historic house enthusiasts from all over NYC will gather on Saturday, October 19th, for “The Insider’s Walking Tour of Historic Douglaston” highlighting some of the Douglaston Historic District’s most interesting homes and landscapes.
The two-hour walking tour will start at the LIRR Station Plaza at Douglaston’s historic Village commercial district, continue along the Douglaston Historic District’s waterfront, and culminate with a guided exploration of the newly completed $2 million interior restoration and renovation of the 1819 Van Zandt-Douglas Mansion, the home of one of the wealthiest families in America during the 19th century.
The Mansion is one of only five freestanding Federal style houses to survive in New York City and today is the home of the members only Douglaston Club, now celebrating its 100th year of ownership of the house and its 3-acre grounds. Refreshments, fruit and cookies will be served on the expansive 55 foot-long front porch overlooking the front lawn of the Club.
This Open House NY event is locally co-sponsored by the Douglaston and Little Neck Historical Society, the Douglaston Local Development Corporation and the Douglas House Trust.
